Eco Town

Wuhan, China

Project Description:

Wuhan’s commitment to long-term sustainable living is embodied within its Eco-town, a uniquely planned lake waterfront community that embraces the concept of ‘one-planet living’. The goals of the development are to incorporate proven sustainable practices for site strategies, infrastructure planning, and building technologies to reduce its overall carbon footprint.

This 1.1 million square-meter site utilizes its unique environment to engage and optimize the sensory experience of its inhabitants. An overall planning strategy enhances the water’s edge by creating a distinct community incorporated residential, commercial, community-related, and recreational uses.

Open-space and waterway passages intersect the main transportation corridor, extending the water element deep into the development, and drawing people out to the active lake zone. Several modes of transportation are encouraged, including vehicular, bicycle, bus, loop-tram, and water taxi.

Two realities of Wuhan Eco-town are ever-present: that it is closely connected to the daily life of the city, and that it reflects a meaningful consciousness of the sustainable world.
